What I found in current postings on United Airlines's hiring portal (May 2026)
United's careers portal exposed pay on 7 of 8 sampled postings and surfaced two of the most specific pre-application gates I saw at any US airline this week. Three things stood out.
- United Flight Attendant posting showed the wage escalation path — $37.10/hr starting → top of base scale $100.13/hr by 2030.Flight Attendant (job FA2026-3) showed starting hourly flight pay $37.10, top of base scale $100.13/hour by 2030, plus $140/week training stipend and a $1,000 graduate bonus. Training is 6.5 weeks in Houston, TX with no relocation funds provided for the assigned base. Applicants must be age 21+, hold a valid passport in physical possession before applying with 12 months of validity and two blank pages, qualify for DOT/FAA drug screens, pass a 10-year background check, and be able to push/pull a beverage cart up to 250 lbs. So the FA application has documentary requirements that need to be in place before clicking Apply.
- GSE Technician posting named the union explicitly — IBT representation with a 90-day union-joining requirement.The Ground Service Equipment Technician posting in Chicago at $34.52/hr stated IBT (International Brotherhood of Teamsters) representation and required new employees to join the union within 90 days. Schedules are bid and awarded according to seniority. So the role is union-covered with a hard 90-day enrollment clock and seniority-based scheduling — three things most airline tech postings bury in the apply flow.
- Boiler Technician at SFO included the $20,000 sign-on bonus in the job title itself.Boiler Technician (job SFO00005310) showed $40.48/hr starting plus a title that included "$20,000 Sign on Bonus." Putting the bonus amount in the role title is unusual — it's typically buried in the offer letter or stated as "competitive bonus." United is using the job title as a search/recruitment hook. Required 12 months boiler operator or stationary engineer experience, valid driver license, 10-year background check, pre-placement tests, and airport clearances.
One caveat I'd flag:Pay-disclosure consistency was strong but not universal: Avionics Technician Line at Denver ($94K-$122K range was missing) was the one posting where pay didn't surface cleanly, with a CBA-pending note. So even on the same employer, expect occasional gaps where a role is being repriced or moved to a union scale.
