Kroger and Fred Meyer pay, hiring process, and application

Quick answers

What does Kroger pay, and which banner is hiring?

Kroger's 2025 Responsible Business Report puts its average hourly wage near $19.50, or about $25.35 once benefits are counted. That is a company-wide figure. A sampled Marysville cashier posting was more specific and lower: a fixed $15.40, with a street address and an apply-before deadline attached. Two other postings left the salary rows empty altogether, and one of them turned out to be a Fred Meyer store rather than a Kroger.

What Kroger pays, and when the posting says so

Kroger's 2025 Responsible Business Report says Kroger's average hourly wage is nearly $19.50, or nearly $25.35 including comprehensive benefits, after $2.7 billion in incremental wage investments since 2018. This is a stronger current company-wide pay source than the older Western-states-only aggregate, but exact pay should still be checked in the current posting and local agreement because many sampled store and corporate postings did not disclose a public pay range.

How to apply to a Kroger family store

Kroger Family Careers is the main portal for Kroger, Fred Meyer, King Soopers, Smith's Food and Drug, Kroger Delivery, Kroger Manufacturing, Kroger Corporate and other Kroger-family roles. Candidates can search jobs and use the official profile/sign-in route for application status, but Harris Teeter should be treated separately because its current jobs, My Profile and My Submissions flow live on a separate Harris Teeter Careers / Taleo portal. Applicants should save the exact banner, portal, requisition URL, location, role family, profile email, and application route before comparing Kroger advice across banners.

How to check a Kroger application

Kroger Family Careers links 'Check Application Status' to the official profile/sign-in page. Harris Teeter job pages separately list 'My Profile' for managing profiles for future opportunities and 'My Submissions' for tracking opportunities, so application-status instructions should split Kroger Family Careers and Harris Teeter rather than treating every banner as the same portal.

How to prepare for a Kroger interview

The official sources reviewed did not provide a Kroger interview-question list or fixed interview format. Source-backed interview prep should therefore be framed around Kroger's official values and posting duties: customer service, safety, honesty and integrity, diversity and inclusion, respect, availability, accuracy, food/pharmacy/DOT rules and role-specific work conditions. Strong answers should name the exact banner and role family instead of using generic grocery praise.

Kroger Hiring Process

Current official sources support a search-and-apply flow through Kroger Family Careers and role-specific requisition types in the Oracle recruiting system, but they do not confirm a universal Kroger interview timeline, fixed hiring-round sequence, or single hiring process for every banner and role. Treat the current posting, candidate profile, banner, local agreement, and any recruiter or store follow-up as the source of truth.

Kroger Assessment

Kroger's current job-detail data shows role-specific requisition types rather than one universal applicant test: sampled postings included 'External Only Assessment' for warehouse/order-selector and some manufacturing roles, 'Professional License' for pharmacy and one delivery posting, 'DOT' for a delivery driver posting, 'Streamline Recruiting' for cashier/deli roles, and 'General Recruiting' for corporate/category roles. The official sources reviewed did not use the term 'virtual tryout.'

Kroger Career Growth

Kroger's 2025 Responsible Business Report says Kroger uses Fresh Start and other training modalities for role-based training, leadership development, Purpose and Values courses, associate well-being and safety, service excellence and more. It also says Kroger's Career Track Leadership Development framework outlines leadership and technical development requirements and that managers are expected to coach and develop team members through regular performance and development conversations.

Kroger Tuition Benefits

Kroger's 2025 Responsible Business Report says its continuing education assistance benefit provides up to $3,500 annually and up to $21,000 over a career. It says nearly all part-time and full-time associates are eligible after 60 days of service, and that interns with 120 days of service or more were added to the program in 2024.

Kroger Pay Examples

Current official posting examples show role/location-specific pay where disclosed: a Fred Meyer Warehouse Order Selector in Puyallup, WA listed $30.73-$40.97; a Kroger Delivery Customer Service Delivery Driver in Romulus, MI listed minimum salary 21.17; and a Kroger Manufacturing MFG General Help posting in Clackamas, OR listed minimum salary 23.28. Sampled Kroger/Fred Meyer/Smith's store postings and Kroger Corporate salaried postings were marked hourly or salaried but did not disclose public pay ranges in the flex fields checked.

Kroger Role Fit

Kroger role fit should be split by role family and banner: Grocery Retail covers store roles such as cashier, courtesy clerk, deli and bakery; Kroger Health & Wellness covers retail pharmacy and clinic paths; Kroger Delivery covers delivery driver roles; Supply Chain & Distribution covers warehouse/order selector roles; Manufacturing covers plant roles; Corporate covers category management, sourcing and other salaried roles; Harris Teeter uses its own separate careers portal and profile/submission flow.

Kroger Background Check

A current Customer SVC/Shift Leader posting includes 'Ability to pass a pre-employment background check' as a role qualification, but the reviewed official sources do not establish a universal Kroger-wide background-check process. Treat background-check details as role-specific until a stronger official source confirms a broader rule.

Kroger Drug Test

Some current Kroger postings include drug-test language, but the support is role-specific: a Front End/Cashier posting requires ability to pass a drug test, and a Warehouse Order Selector posting requires company physical, physical strength testing and drug testing by designated company physicians and labs. The reviewed official sources do not establish a universal Kroger-wide drug-test procedure.

Applicant decision brief

Decide whether this Kroger role is worth the next step

The most important Kroger application field is the banner and location, not the parent-company name. Fred Meyer, Ralphs, King Soopers, QFC, Smith's, and other Kroger-family banners can carry different local practices, union environments, age or department restrictions, and apply flows. We would file the application under the exact banner, store or facility, requisition, and department before using any Kroger-wide preparation advice.

What the sampled Kroger blocks left blank

  1. The live job count is a dated portal snapshot, and Store Operations dominated the current inventory.

  2. Recruiting metadata differed by requisition even among hourly roles in the same portal.

  3. Pay visibility was inconsistent across the three current detail records.

What the sampled Kroger postings confirm

  • Most Kroger-family roles and status tracking use Kroger Family Careers, while Harris Teeter uses a separate careers, profile, and submissions portal.
  • Three requisitions retained on July 12, 2026—not proof they remain open—showed banner- and role-specific differences: cashier 207954 exposed $15.40 and Streamline Recruiting metadata, while Fred Meyer pickup 207936 and supply-chain order selector 169412 exposed External Only Assessment metadata but no public pay fields.

What a blank Kroger row does not settle

  • Records 207936 and 169412 did not disclose pay, leaving the exact rate, premium, and local or collective-bargaining terms unresolved.
  • The label External Only Assessment did not reveal a candidate-facing test name, duration, scoring rule, pass threshold, or interview sequence.

Questions for the Kroger banner store

  1. Which Kroger-family banner and legal employer owns this requisition, and is the store or facility covered by a union or local agreement?
  2. What exact pay rate, shift, employment type, department, and premium apply to this job ID?
  3. Does this requisition assign an assessment, license, DOT, drug-test, background-check, or other screening step, and what is its deadline?

Keep the banner name, requisition, address, and deadline

  1. The complete requisition showing job ID, banner, role family, location, salary fields or their absence, schedule, and recruiting metadata.
  2. The status screen from the correct Kroger Family Careers or Harris Teeter profile, including the account email and visible next task.
  3. The recruiter message or written offer showing pay, shift, union or local terms, screening requirements, and employing entity.

Why the Kroger careers URL hides the banner

Kroger's current inventory is concentrated in Store Operations, yet the family also contains manufacturing, fulfillment, supply chain, pharmacy, technology, and corporate roles. The search inventory therefore describes a portfolio rather than a single funnel. In the July sample, the Marysville Cashier detail exposed a $15.40 field while the Fred Meyer pickup and Kroger Supply Chain details omitted public pay. An omitted field stays unresolved; it is not evidence that pay will appear later in the application.

Detail-row check

The blanks in a Kroger posting are the finding

All three sampled postings rendered the same detail block. Reading them side by side shows which rows the Kroger family fills and which it leaves out, including the banner that actually employs the store.

Rows the Marysville cashier posting filled

  1. Job identification 207954 and store operations category
  2. A street address, not just a city
  3. Apply Before 08/11/2026, an explicit application deadline
  4. Minimum Salary 15.40 and Maximum Salary 15.40

A minimum equal to the maximum is a fixed rate, not a range.

Rows the other two postings left blank

  1. No minimum or maximum salary row on either record
  2. No Apply Before row on the Anchorage pick-up role
  3. Banner Name read Fred Meyer and Kroger Supply Chain, not Kroger
  4. The careers URL was identical in all three cases

Record the banner name; the Kroger careers domain does not identify the employer.

Official-source review

Kroger portal and posting review (July 2026)

This review queried the Oracle Candidate Experience service used by Kroger Family Careers and opened three current requisitions posted between July 10 and July 11. The sample covers a Kroger-banner cashier, a Fred Meyer pickup clerk, and a Kroger Supply Chain order selector. Those records expose different recruiting metadata, pay visibility, schedules, and work conditions inside the same portal. No candidate profile was created and no application or assessment was started.

Open 3 source-review notes
  1. The live job count is a dated portal snapshot, and Store Operations dominated the current inventory. The official search response reported 15,175 requisitions at the observation time, with 14,459 categorized as Store Operations and 1,735 posted in the preceding seven days. Store Operations was therefore about 95% of that result, but neither figure should be reused as a standing company statistic. The count was already lower than the older May field note, which demonstrates why a careers count needs the endpoint, filters, and date. Applicants targeting supply chain, manufacturing, health, or corporate work should use the corresponding career-area filter rather than infer availability from the store-heavy default result.
  2. Recruiting metadata differed by requisition even among hourly roles in the same portal.Cashier 207954 used the Oracle label Streamline Recruiting, while Fred Meyer pickup clerk 207936 and supply-chain order selector 169412 used External Only Assessment. These labels are requisition metadata, not a published description of question count, score, or every applicant step. They do show why one Kroger-wide assessment script would be misleading. The cashier was part-time on second shift; the pickup role was part-time; and the order- selector role was full-time with night, weekend, overtime, holiday, equipment, and refrigerated-environment requirements.
  3. Pay visibility was inconsistent across the three current detail records.Marysville cashier 207954 exposed minimum and maximum salary flex fields of $15.40, alongside the Kroger banner, Grocery Retail line of business, hourly status, and second- shift label. The Fred Meyer pickup and Kroger Supply Chain order-selector records exposed their banner, line of business, and hourly status but no minimum or maximum pay fields. The absence of those fields does not prove that pay appears only after applying or that no rate exists; it means the public detail payload checked on this date did not disclose one. Comparison shopping therefore requires opening each saved requisition rather than assuming the search card or another banner's role supplies the missing rate.

Important limitation:Search totals, posting dates, end dates, requisition metadata, and salary flex fields can change after this snapshot. Oracle's RequisitionType values do not by themselves establish a candidate-facing assessment name, duration, pass rule, or interview sequence. The review did not sign in, submit an application, complete an assessment, contact a store, or inspect an offer. Banner, location, union or local agreement, role family, schedule, and the exact active posting remain the controlling sources for an applicant.
